Over the past six months, Suite 101 has reported to Christian music fans that at the end of 2011, The David Crowder Band had decided to disband. Well, the time has come to say good-bye. With the beginning of 2012 comes one final performance and one final album. They will be missed.
The David Crowder Band
When the David Crowder band started back in 2000, the band first signed a 3 album deal with Sixstepsrecords, not wanting to get too ahead of themselves. After those three were recorded and the band began working on albums 4 thru 6, the group never could see going past #6.
The 7 Tour
The name of their Fall Tour 2011 was The 7 Tour and the #7 has significant meaning to the group as it is often used to refer to completion. God created the Earth in 6 days and rested on the 7th. It was complete. The David Crowder Band has hidden the number 7 or the sums of 3 and 4 somewhere within every music and artwork project throughout the band's 11 year career.
Also like creation itself, each album that David Crowder has recorded has been related to or referred back to a previous album. Everything is connected and it all centers around and brings Glory to God.
Calling it Quits
The decision to disband after the 7 Tour reflects the changes that have gone on in the lives of the band members. Many are now married with children and would like to spend more time at home with their families. A few are thinking about going back to school and one or two have considered taking up writing for a living. No matter what the future brings, fans can be sure that years spent as the David Crowder band have shaped and influenced each member in a profound way and each one will continue somehow, someway in the ministry of reaching out to people and leading them toward a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Passion 2012
The David Crowder Band has been a huge part of the Passion Movement and the annual Passion conferences. It was only fitting that their final in person performance be at Passion 2012, January 2-5 at the Georgia Dome. This conference completely sold out and was a perfect way to bid farewell.
Give Us Rest
This final album, "Give Us Rest," showcases the band’s unique music style and touches on worship, pop, rock, bluegrass and electronic genres. With the closing of one door, the David Crowder Band lets fans know that as one thing comes to an end, God still has many things planned for each of us. There's always a beginning of something new. It's never quite the end, just a new rebirth, a rest from one project and a renewal of energy into another project. How fitting is that at the start of 2012? Check out the final album from the David Crowder Band releasing on January 10, 2012 nationwide.
