The Christian music group, Red is categorized as a hard Christian rock band from Nashville, Tennessee that formed in 2004. Thus far, they have produced three studio albums: End of Silence in 2006, Innocence and Instinct in 2009 and Until We Have Faces just released on February 1, 2011The first two albums were so popular, they both earned Grammy nominations for Best Rock Gospel Album.
The Early Years
The group, Red was formed by twin brothers, Anthony Armstrong on guitar and Randy Armstrong on bass guitar. The are joined by lead vocalist, Michael Barnes Joe Rickard on the drums and guitarist Jasen Rauch. Jasen is the primary composer for the group. He is no longer touring with the group but is still their composer and remains a member of Red and will not be replaced. Soon after the band formed, they were signed to Sony's Essential Records. This group shows amazing promise both in their music and lyrics.
End of Silence
Red has been anything but silent since the release of their first studio album, End of Silence, in 2006. The albums first single, Breathe Into Me , won the award for Rock Recorded Song Of the Year at the 38th GMA Dove Awards in 2007. The band has played in over 1000 concerts. They have opened for countless popular Christian music groups around the country, including: Kutless and Skillet.
Innocence & Instinct
Red's second studio album, Innocence & Instinct debuted on the Billboard 200 at #15 and sold over 39,000 copies during it's first week of release. Innocence & Instinct also peaked at #5 , that first week, on the iTunes overall Top Album Chart.
This album helped Red make Christian music history. The single, Fight Inside debuted at #1 when it was released in November 2008. Red won the award for Rock Album of the Year at the 2010 Dove Awards. Also, one song from this album, Take It All Away, will be featured in an upcoming movie, Into The Darkness, releasing later this year.
2011 Tours And Until We Have Faces
So far, both End of Silence and Innocence & Instinct together have sold an impressive 600,000 copies. Fans should not be surprised if this new album, Until We Have Faces, does as well or even better. Red is ever gaining in popularity.
