The Disney channel has the imaginary Camp Rock and Nashville has the real thing. Camp Electric is held at Trevecca Nazarene University located in Nashville, TN. This is the third year for the one of a kind Worship and Rock & Roll music camp. This year, it has become so popular, it's going to be open two weeks instead of one. Week one, July 11-15, is already full. A second week, July 18-22, is now taking enrollment. A week at Camp Rock cost $799, but to some, it's a chance of a lifetime. To attend, all campers must be between the ages of 13 to 18 years old.
A Day at Camp Electric
Camp Electric is a specially designed camp to help music prodigies and future artists refine their skills. Classes and opportunities are available for all areas of the music industry including: vocalist, instrumentalist, and sound board technicians. Each day Camp Electric starts with a worship service. The worship services includes music and a daily speaker.
The rest of the day will be filled with sessions for the entire camp group, instrument and area specific sessions and smaller sessions broken down into levels of musical experience. There are also free periods each day and opportunities to choose from various extra activities. Each night will end with a concert from TobyMac, FEE, Salvador and other top artists. The teachers for these sessions are mostly band members from top groups and artists. Some of the instructors include members from the following: Chris Tomlin, Sanctus Real, Kutless, TobyMac, Jeremy Camp,Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith, Mandisa and Skillet.
Church Camp
Now days, most churches and now even youth groups have a worship team and praise band. Camp Electric has designed its music camp program to assist in the development and growth of Christian musicians. This church camp is not just swimming, roasting marshmallows, kum-ba-yah and Bible study. It's a opportunity to train with some of Christian music's greatest artists and develop a foundation for future work in the Christian music industry.
TobyMac's Passion for Camp Electric
For TobyMac, it's always been about reaching today's youth culture for Christ. That's why he began dcTalk and Gotee Records. His style of music is very similar to most secular pop/rock groups in the world today. However, his lyrics stay focused on what's really important: God, character, making life meaningful. TobyMac uses his music and lyrics to awaken teens to God's love and a greater purpose in life than just a good time.
Rock the Camp Contest
KLOVE, The national chain of Christian radio stations, helped sponsor a contest prior to this year's camp. The Rock the Camp Contest gave one new up and coming band the chance to play at Camp Electric. This year's winner was a group by the name of Cloverton. It's a big honor and a chance to get discovered, hit the big time, earn recording contracts and begin climbing the charts.
Summer Camp Options
Summer break brings with it a host of opportunities and choices. For the science geek, it might be space camp. For the jock, it could be a host of camps like: football, baseball or soccer. However, for the aspiring Christian musician, Camp Electric is the ultimate summer camp experience. Spend a week learning from those who are living the dream and spreading God's message of love through the gift of music. This would be a summer camp worth remembering.
