Mrs. Kate The Early Years
Before she was Mrs. Kate, she was just Kate. In 1972, she attended Humboldt State College in northern California and held a summer job at Lassen Volcanic National Park. While there, she met her husband Tim. They married in 1973 and they moved to his hometown of Birmingham, Michigan. Kate finished her degree, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish at Michigan State University.
From there, they moved to Wilmore, Kentucky so that Tim could attend Asbury Theological Seminary. Both Tim & Kate were very active in campus and college ministry. Kate also gave birth to their daughter Teri during these years.
After seminary, the family moved back to Michigan, had their son Will, and began pastoring and started a campus ministry in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. They were actively involved there for about five years before God moved them to Florida.
Kate and Tim now reside in Callahan, Florida, where Tim is the pastor of Friendship Alliance Church. The children are now grown and Kate has more time to devote to her folk music efforts.
Motivate With Mrs. Kate
Kate has written between 200-300 original songs. she began performing in public and producing independent albums in 1993. Her lyrics sounds are similar to that Christian folk singer J.J. Heller. Kate recorded her first album, Front Burner, in 1993, Little Sheep in 1994, Armadilo-Songs for Children in 1996 and Porch Swing in 1997.
In 1999, friend and current music producer, Jamie DeFrates, helped Kate record her first live album Hug-A-Bug-A-Boo. Her next project in 2000, Gotta Be A Doer, was a children's collection of songs and scriptural concepts. With this project, she appeared on public television for the first time, was interviewed by Folk radio stations and invited to play in Nashville. This album led into the Gotta Be A Doer video in 2002. On the video, Mrs. Kate demonstrates hand motions and actions that helped the children learn the songs.
In 2007, Mrs. Kate recorded her 8th project, Motivate With Mrs. Kate, and she began performing in public schools. The folk music ministry continues to grow. In 2009, she established a kids vocal team to accompany her on her latest release, a Christian folk music project entitled, Passport To Power which was released in January 2010.
